Founded in 2011 by Jason Chestnutt, Joshua Scott, and Shawn Brydge, Cavaliers Against Cancer has raised over $100,000 for the Rebecca Clary Harris, M.D. Memorial Fellowship at the University of Virginia Cancer Center. This fellowship celebrates the life of Rebecca Clary Harris M.D., a talented physician and researcher who excelled in the study and treatment of melanoma. The fund provides clinical and translational research fellowships to graduate students or fellows in the Human Immune Therapy Center at the University of Virginia Cancer Center.
Cavaliers Against Cancer’s flagship event is an annual charity Texas Hold’em Poker tournament that is organized and executed by Shawn Brydge, Ellie Sharp, and Jason Chestnutt. The 2016 tournament was held at the John Paul Jones Arena and hosted over 250 poker players and raised over $30,000.
